Parachute 2010 Interviews – Saving Grace

Saving Grace – Interview @ Parachute 2010 – 30/01/2010

tunnelMUSIC – Was great to see you guys last night, you played an amazing show. I noticed you guys had some new material from your latest album. What was the inspiration to make this album.

Saving Grace (Vasley) – The new record is called ‘Unbreakable’ which is based on the song Unbreakable, it’s one of our oldest songs which came off a split we did in 2006. It embodies everything that we are as a band; faith, family and friendship. So the whole album is based on that I guess, overcoming any struggles, with God behind us. It’s not a concept album as such but the whole way we used the song as the title and the theme song I think it kind of just fit. We also wanted to do the song Unbreakable some justice because it had never been recorded properly which is why we shot the video and stuff. I think the whole album is a bit more mature than the last one so it’s a step up from anything we have done before.

tunnelMUSIC – You guys recently signed to Strike First Records, how does it feel going from a smaller label to being up there with the big guys?

Lydia Cole – Interview @ Parachute – 31/1/2010

tunnelMUSIC – A mate and I recently saw you at the Acoustic Church tour in Christchurch, how did you get involved with that?

Lydia Cole – I just got asked, management yeah. They are all in the loop with each other.

tunnelMUSIC – One thing that has really impressed me about your live shows is the stage banter with your audience. Is this something that comes naturally to you or were you nervous at first?

Parachute 2010 Interviews – Switchfoot

Closed

At long last after a ridiculously busy month, we bring you the first in a series of interviews of some of the artists who performed at the Parachute music festival this year. First up, we have Switchfoot, who gave an amazing performance on the Saturday night.

Switchfoot Interview – (Drew and Tim) – 30/01/2010

tunnelMUSIC – Welcome back to NZ guys, what are your feelings now compared to when you were here last time?

SF (TF) – We were blown away last time. The excitement of this festival & for our music, having never really played a big show in New Zealand it was surprising, kinda felt like coming home in a weird way. (DS) – The flat whites are even better than I remember! (TF) – We kinda joke a lot when we’re home about up and moving to New Zealand, it feels very comfortable here. The surfing is definitely a big part of that.

TunnelMUSIC- I’ve noticed that in your lyrics, especially on your latest album, you talk a lot about finding God’s love in song. How does that theme drive you to do what you do?

Norma Jean, The Chariot, HORSE The Band, Arsonists Get All The Girls

Today we have a gig review all the way from New York. Sean James reports…

11 DEC 2009

GRAMERCY THEATER, NEW YORK, NY

My night begins at 6.30pm, catching the subway down to Broadway. It’s minus five degrees Celsius outside the Gramercy Theatre in New York and the line is extended right around the corner onto Lexington Ave. Twenty minutes we wait as the line grows and grows. By my count it extends about twenty meters in front of me, and about another thirty behind me. Seizing the opportunity to get some business, the pizza parlor across the street sends over a waitress and goes up and down the line taking orders. For the record, New York pizza is the best in the world. It just tastes so fantastic.
