Rapture Ruckus – Interview @ Parachute 30/01/2010

tunnelMUSIC – After seeing you on Mainstage last night it’s obvious you’ve developed quite a rapport with your audience. How important is your live show to you as a performer?

Rapture Ruckus (Brad Dring) – Our live show is everything to us, that’s kind of what has made Rapture Ruckus what it is. We started out making music in the studio but being on the road is what we base everything on. We make all our major decisions on our live show and getting that better. We’re definitely a live act, we are all real passionate about performing and we go and see other bands.

tunnelMUSIC – How different is your live show now compared to when you first performed at Parachute?

Rapture Ruckus (Brad Dring) – I hope that it’s gotten better. I think that early on I didn’t give that much thought into our performance and that kind of stuff, you just have your tracks, get up and bang one track into the next. I think over the years since I have studied big international bands, and how they can use the atmosphere and technology and lights to make an experience where someone can walk away from a show going, “Whoa, that was mind blowing”. It has been a big passion of mine to learn those skills. I’ve got a big crew that support me, I’ve got lighting people, production people and sound people who really just make the whole thing work.

tunnelMUSIC – I think a lot of people find that the ‘I Believe’ video really does affect that song.

Rapture Ruckus (Brad Dring) – Something simple, but it really does make a big difference.

tunnelMUSIC – This is one question I’ve always wanted to know. Obviously you have a lot of fans coming up to you who know you by your stage name, do you mind that at all?

Rapture Ruckus (Brad Dring) – I don’t mind that at all, no. If someone wants to call me Rapture I’m cool with that, or if they want to call me Brad I’m cool with that. Call me whatever you want man.

tunnelMUSIC – The move to BEC, how big is this for you?

Rapture Ruckus (Brad Dring) – It’s a big deal, I don’t know if it’s really sunk in. We’ve been knocking on Americas door for a few years now and it just sort of seems that it’s Gods right time for us to be going. A whole bunch of doors have been opening. BEC got our DVD and they wanted to work with us, we’ve got a fantastic booking agent lined up. So yeah a whole bunch of things have really just come into place, we’re real excited about it so we’re going to give it everything. We’re investing everything we have got into it to see if we can make it work. For us the bigger picture isn’t America it’s the global one, America is just kind of the hub for pop-culture in the world and if you can get things happening there it’s going to open a lot of doors in a lot of countries.

tunnelMUSIC – How was the recording process with BEC?

Rapture Ruckus (Brad Dring) – We’re real lucky in that I’m still working with Parachute closely. I’ve pretty much produced all my own records. So I have to sort out budgets and things with the record companies but I still control where that all goes and how it works and I’m happy to do that, it’s part of my profession. Before I was Rapture Ruckus I worked on recordings for other people.

tunnelMUSIC – I personally believe that the power of testimony is really powerful and after hearing yours I know that it must affect you in a big way, how do apply that to not just your music but also your personal life as well?

Rapture Ruckus (Brad Dring) – I think that the things I’ve been through and the things I have learned have led me to be more conscious about loving people and accepting people cause I’ve been through so much stuff in my life. That’s a huge thing for me, just accepting and loving people, it’s a quality that I really see in people, it doesn’t matter who it is, they’re just all about them. It blows my mind, like last night getting to perform to that many people and feeling all the love coming back at me, it’s mind blowing to think where I have come from to where I am. I can undeniably say that it’s Gods grace that has brought me here because I’m not a smart guy.
